SITGES FILM FESTIVAL

Program description

For the seventh consecutive year, the Filmarket Hub platform and Festival de Sitges come together to organize Sitges Pitchbox, an international pitching event focused on feature films and series in development of horror, science fiction or fantasy. Seven feature films and five European series have been selected. Those responsible for these projects will have the opportunity to make a seven-minute pitch and then have one-to-one meetings with the participating companies. Additionally, four cash prizes will be allocated for development expenditure. Participant companies include: XYZ Films, Wild Bunch, Exile Content Studio, Globalgate Entertainment, Red Arrow Studios, The Mediapro Studio, Showrunner Films, and more.

Prizes

  • Prize for Best Featured Feature: 5,000 € (VAT included)
  • Prize for both finalist feature films: 1,000 € per project (VAT included)
  • Prize for best series: 2,500 € (VAT included)

Programming blocks

The Sitges Pitchbox programming is divided into the following blocks: Scripted Series, Feature Films and this year’s novelty, Showrunners Lab, in collaboration with Europa Creativa Desk – MEDIA Catalunya, an introductory seminar and advice on the figure of the showrunner through the presentation and analysis of three models: North American, Scandinavian and Spanish.

SITGES PITCHBOX – SHOWRUNNERS LAB

This edition of Sitges Pitchbox is complemented with the Showrunners LAB, an introductory seminar and advice on the figure of the showrunner, a key piece in series productions, through the presentation and analysis of three models: the North American, the Scandinavian and the Spanish.

The initiative, which has the support and co-organization of Europa Creativa Desk – MEDIA Catalunya, invites the five series projects selected in the Sitges Pitchbox call to participate in this laboratory, which counts on the the collaboration of an outstanding showrunner representative of each of the models.

The three participating showrunners, Nick Antosca, Teresa Fernández-Valdés and Jannik Tai Mosholt, will offer one-to-one advice to the five projects and will carry out a masterclass exposing the main characteristics of their model, as well as a study-case based on in its trajectory.

Masterclasses

Nick Antosca (USA), Teresa Fernández-Valdés (Spain) and Jannik Tai Mosholt (Denmark) will present the main characteristics of their country of origin, as well as a case study dependent on their trajectories.

  • Masterclass de Nick Antosca: Nick Antosca will expose the main characteristics of the North-American model, as well as a study-case based on his trajectory.
  • Masterclass de Teresa Fernández-Valdés: Teresa Fernández-Valdés will expose the main characteristics of the Spanish model, as well as a study-case based on her trajectory.
  • Masterclass de Jannik Tai Mosholt: Jannik Tai Mosholt will expose the main characteristics of the Scandinavian model, as well as a study-case based on his trajectory.

Participants:

  • Nick Antosca: Nick Antosca is a prestigious screenwriter and producer, as well as a writer. In his career, within the fantastic serial production, the popular Channel Zero (HBO), created by himself, stands out; and the episodes written for Hannibal; Believe and The Act. Currently, he is about to release the feature film Antlers, a film produced by Guillermo del Toro and based on a short story by Antosca himself, who has co-written the script.
  • Teresa Fernández-Valdés: Teresa Fernández-Valdés holds a degree in Journalism from the CEU San Pablo University and a Master’s Degree in Audiovisual Production and Management from the University of A Coruña. Initially, she developed her professional activity as a journalist in different media and, after this stage, she fully incorporated herself into audiovisual production. In 2008, alongside with Ramón Campos, she founded the production company Bambú Producciones. Both managed to standed out prominently in the fiction scene and produced different series that achieved national and international success: Grand Hotel, Velvet, and Cocaine Coast are some of them. After these successes, in 2014 Bambú becomes the first Spanish production company to coproduce a series with BBC Worldwide, entitled The Refugees. In 2016, Bambú produces the first original Netflix series in Spain, Cable Girls, with big success at international level. In 2018 Bambu decides to go for film production as well and gets involved in two projects: 32 Malasaña Street and Our Summer Together. Currently, Bambú is immersed in the production of A Private Affair, first series of the company for Amazon starred Jean Reno and Now And Then, the first Apple TV Spanish series, a thriller set in Miami.
  • Jannik Tai Mosholt: Jannik Tai Mosholt graduated as screenwriter from the National Film School of Denmark in 2005. Since then he has worked on multiple tv-series and feature films, and in 2020 he founded Tall and Small with Christian Potalivo. Jannik has written the script for the youth films THE WAR GAME, HOLD ME TIGHT and YOU & ME FOREVER, and the animated international festival darlings BEYOND BEYOND and THE GREAT BEAR. Furthermore, he was the main writer on the 4th season of the popular tv-series RITA and episode writer on the international success BORGEN and the praised tv-series FOLLOW THE MONEY. Together with his two co-creators Jannik has created and is main writer on the first Scandinavian Netflix Original series THE RAIN.

Showrunners Lab: Round Table

This edition of Sitges Pitchbox is complemented with the Showrunners LAB, an introductory seminar and advice on the figure of the showrunner, a key piece in series productions, through the presentation and analysis of three models: the North American, the Scandinavian and the Spanish.

In this roundtable, guided by Victor Sala, co-director of Serielizados, the participating showrunners of the three models, Nick Antosca, Jannik Tai Mosholt and Teresa Fernández-Valdés, will share their experiences as well as the main characteristics of each model, previously discussed in the masterclasses held during the same day.
